Description

Lean a tool that communications experts use to help clients organize their thoughts and to identify key points about their research. We will discuss how this tool, the Message Box, can be used to help structure a presentation, outline a proposal, or prepare for an interview. Participants will leave with a completed draft of their own message box.

This workshop will take place from1:30-3:30 pm in Nau Hall, room 342. Seating is very limited so we ask that you only register for this workshop if you will attend, and cancel at least 48 hours in advance if you are unable to attend a workshop that you have registered for.

Communication workshops will provide hands-on training for graduate students to learn the principles of communication and presentation, and to gain practice in using these critical skills. Workshops will include both instruction as well as time to practice and receive feedback. Participants will be encouraged to adapt the exercises to their intended audience (whatever that may be); however, emphasis will be given during instruction and practice to communicating to audiences outside of a participant's field.

This workshop is part of series intended to prepare students for the Three Minute Thesis Competition. For more information about the 3MT competition at UVA, click here. To enter the UVA 3MT competition, click here.
